Hi, I'm Chris
The Wellbeing Guy
With 13 years experience working in 1:1 mental health support; service management and corporate wellbeing trainer roles I stepped out in 2017 to be able to work with a broader range of organisations and smaller community groups.
Having developed distinct expertise in the field of suicide prevention I deliver community-based workshops which develop skills and confidence for attendees to feel ready, willing and able to support someone through a crisis.
Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a two-day interactive workshop in suicide first aid. ASIST teaches participants to recognise when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety.
Although ASIST is widely used in support and care professions, participants don’t need any formal training to attend the workshop—anyone 16 or older can learn and use the ASIST model.
Duration: 15 hours (2 days)
Group size: 10-24 attendees
Availability: Open & Closed Groups
Delivered by: 2 x ASIST Master Trainers
Includes: 24-page workbook; badges; resources; quick reference tool.
safeTALK is a half-day training in suicide alertness. It helps participants recognise a person with thoughts of suicide and connect them with resources who can help them in choosing to live (e.g. an ASIST trained caregiver).
safeTALK also invites us to consider the common reasons we might miss, dismiss or avoid asking about suicide. Participants don’t need any formal preparation to attend.
Duration: 3.5 hours (0.5 day)
Group size: 10-30 attendees
Availability: Closed Groups only
Delivered by: ASIST/safeTALK Master Trainer
Includes: 24-page reference book; badges; quick reference tool.
Our open community workshops are a great way to connect with a diverse range of practitioners working to create suicide-safer communities & offer an opportunity for individuals to attend ASIST.
All of our open workshops run from easily accessible venues on the edge of Cardiff or Newport, just 5 minutes drive off of the M4 motorway. The training venues boast free parking and on-site catering, alternatively, attendees are welcome to buy lunch from one of the nearby supermarkets.
